William Thorson

William Thorson is a Swedish professional poker player born in 1983. He graduated from high school with a degree in economics and currently lives in Varberg, Sweden.

William Thorson realized that education wasn’t his cup of coffee and his love for games since childhood led him to play poker. He started out by playing online at the play money tables and has been playing at PokerStars since 2002 under the screen name “William.” He began playing poker regularly and with some help from his dad, he soon started seeing success at the international level. William Thorson has come a long way since his first deposit of a meager $50 when he started playing with real-money and can now deposit even $10,000 to enter the World Series of Poker (WSOP) events. He is regarded as a serious threat to his opponents at the table because of his aggressive style of play and a confident table image.

William Thorson caught the attention of the poker world on October 17, 2004, with his ninth-place finish in the No-Limit Hold’em event at the Ladbrokes Poker Cruise tournament. At LA Poker Classic/World Poker Tour (WPT) Event Season 3, he reached the final table and finished fifth bagging $36,557 in the No-Limit Hold’em event held on February16, 2005.

William Thorson finished thirteenth in the race for the gold bracelet in the No-Limit Hold’em Championship WSOP Final at the 37th Annual World Series of Poker tournament. This performance resulted in William Thorson walking away with a mind-blowing $907,128, his biggest prize money yet. He added $56,619 to his bankroll when he finished as the runner-up at Showdown Poker Tour in the No-Limit Hold’em event held on October 22, 2006.

William Thorson was no stranger at the European Poker Tournament (EPT) arena and he established his presence convincingly at the EPT Dublin Season 3 in October 2006, when he was the second runner-up and pocketed €184,780, making it his first final-table finish at the European Poker Tour.

In the next season of the World Series of Poker, William Thorson reached the final table in the $5,000 WSOP Limit Hold’em World Championship. He placed third in the event and walked away richer by $136,493 on June 10, 2007. The following year, he earned $120,000 for his ninth-place finish at the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure EPT Event – Season 4. William Thorson followed it up with yet another final-table finish on April 5, 2008 at the San Remo EPT Event – Season 4, where he finished sixth and took away a handsome $184,273 in the No-Limit Hold’em event. His recent records show that he has 17 cashes and his total tournament winnings exceed $1,800,000.

William Thorson is also a member of Team Poker Stars, which includes famous poker players like Greg Ramer, Joe Sachem, and Barry Greenstein. He spends most of his time traveling the pro poker circuit, and in the little spare time he gets he enjoys horse-trotting and owns several horses in his homeland, Sweden. Apart from these, William Thorson also loves playing sports and hanging out with friends.
