In May 1990, Vasili Lazarou started his poker career in a remarkable way by finishing first in the $1,500 buy-in Limit Seven Card Stud event at the 21st Annual World Series of poker (WSOP) held at Binion’s Horseshoe Casino, Las Vegas. He outlasted 243 poker players, who were contesting for a total prize pool worth $396,000, to walk away with a whopping $158,400.
