Tuan "Tommy" Vu is a Vietnamese-American professional poker player. He was born in Longwood, Florida, later moved to California, and currently resides in Las Vegas, Nevada. In his past Tommy Vu worked as a real estate investor and is famous for his previous occupation as a speaker in an infomercial aired in the late 1980s and early 1990s.
Tommy Vu starred in an infomercial where he was surrounded by luxury items like yachts, mansions, expensive cars and by a remarkable collection of young women dressed in bikini only. In that infomercial Tommy Vu promoted his 90 minute free seminar about learning the secrets that he used to make millions. Because of his past as a Vietnamese immigrant, Tommy Vu made out of himself the classical 'rags to riches' story. Tommy Vu`s theory for investment was about finding "distressed" properties such as foreclosures, divorces, bankruptcies and selling them at a profit. Tommy Vu did not speak English very well and the beautiful models that he used as backdrops made him a humorous and memorable personality in the infomercial genre.
The first time that Tommy Vu participated in a live tournament was on April 16th, 1994 in the 25th Annual World Series of Poker - Limit Hold'em Event, where he placed 17th and won $5,784. Then for the period of 11 years he did not make any tournament appearances until 2005. Tommy Vu started entering one tournament after the other, participating in 22 for that year alone. His biggest success for 2005 was at the 36th Annual World Series of Poker where he placed 22nd and won $304,680. During 2006 Tommy Vu entered a total of six tournaments without making any remarkable wins. On June 05, 2007 he entered the 38th Annual World Series of Poker, finished 2nd and collected a prize of $364,761. Tommy Vu was last seen on the poker table on November 27, 2007 in the Bellagio Five Diamond World Poker Classic where he finished 15th and won $6,615. As of 2008, Tommy Vu has won about $1,300,000 from poker tournaments.
