Thomas Wahlroos, a poker pro, was born in Helsinki, Finland. He earned a Masters in Finance from the Swedish School of Economics and Business Administration. After spending a mandatory year of service in the Finnish Marines, Thomas Wahlroos went into his family business - banking. Thomas Wahlroos was an adventure freak and something as mundane as investment banking could not hold his interest for long.
Thomas Wahlroos began playing poker casually with friends, but soon discovered that he had a natural flair for the game. Highly pleased with his initial success, he began dedicating more and more time to, what was then, his "hobby". Then, after five years of honing his skills, Thomas Wahlroos began his professional poker career.
His maiden significant tournament cash came at the Monte Carlo European Poker Tour (EPT) No-Limit Hold'em Grand Final Event in March 2006. He wasn’t successful at the final table, but then, that only made Thomas Wahlroos more persistent. He finished third in the No-Limit Hold'em event at the Five-Star World Poker Classic – World Poker Tour (WPT) Championship Season 4 Tournament. On April 24, 2006, he claimed $43,935 in prize money from the WPT No-Limit Hold'em Championship event at the same tournament. At the Mandalay Bay Poker Championships/WPT Event Season 5 Tournament, Thomas Wahlroos finished in fourth place and won a total sum of $13,880 in the No-Limit Hold'em event. The next event he was in the money was at the No-Limit Hold'em event of the Midnight Sun Tournament held on June 8, 2006, in which Thomas Wahlroos bagged another $14,941 with fifth-place finish. He took a handsome amount of $319,464 on June 16, 2006, when he played in the WPT No-Limit Hold'em Championship event of the Rendezvous Paris/WPT Event -Season 5. On July 9, 2006, at the 37th Annual World Series of Poker, Thomas Wahlroos secured eighth rank and won prize money of $61,476 in Event 16 - Pot-Limit Omaha. Another significant winning for him came on November 18, the same year, when the No-Limit Hold'em event of the Dublin Poker Masters – European Poker Masters (EPM) Season 1 was held. On that day, he added another $31,500 to his bankroll by finishing third. The final notable winning for Thomas Wahlroos for the year 2006 came on December 19, when he bagged $25,370 at the Bellagio Five Diamond World Poker Classic. The year 2007 was also eventful for this young poker pro, as the year brought more credits and cashes. On March 28, 2007 in the No-Limit Hold'em event at the EPT Grand Final Tournament, Thomas Wahlroos walked away with $34,446. He earned his highest prize amount of the year, $278,465, on April 27 at the WPT No-Limit Hold'em Championship. One of his major cash finish was on June 19, at the 38th Annual WSOP as he took home $23, 030 in Event 31 - Heads Up No-Limit Hold'em World Championship.
Event 15 at the Five Star World Classic Poker Classic/WPT World Championship-Season 6 held on April 26, 2008, saw Thomas Wahlroos winning a total sum of $39,570. Another notable cash winning came on June 18, 2008 when he won $30,089 from Event 34 of the 39th World Series of Poker. In addition to live tournaments, Thomas Wahlroos plays online poker at Full Tilt Poker. Poker is not his only passion; he is also an avid skydiver, scuba diver, and snow boarder. Thomas Wahlroos likes to jump out of airplanes at 13,000 feet and finds the experience highly invigorating.
