Thang Luu is an American professional poker player who was born in Vietnam but currently resides in Las Vegas. He is popularly known as “Tiger Luu” in the poker circuit. Before taking to poker professionally, he worked as a table games dealer in Rio All Suite Hotel and Casino, Las Vegas. Primarily a cash player, Thang Luu can be found playing $80-$160 limit range games in casinos in and around Las Vegas. He does not frequently play at tournaments unless it is a major Omaha High-Low Split tournament.
On 2nd June 2005, Thang Luu made his appearance at the 36th Annual World Series of Poker (WSOP) in Event #1 - WSOP Employee Event – No-Limit Hold'em. He competed with many poker pros to finish in third place and walked away with $23,830 in prize money. In the same year, he participated in Event #32 – No-Limit Hold'em at the No-Limit Hold'em Summer Series and his fifth-place finish earned him $1,645. He bagged $49,772 by ranking ninth in the No-Limit Hold’em event of the 37th Annual World Series of Poker in June 2006. In 2007, Thang Luu took part in the 38th Annual World Series of Poker and won the runner-up title in Event #44 - WSOP Omaha Hi/Lo. He outlasted all participants to finish in second place and a whopping amount of $147,726 was added to his bankroll.
A landmark winning in his poker career came by in the year 2008, when Thang Luu entered the 39th World Series of Poker. On 3rd June, he participated in 2008 Event #6 - WSOP Omaha Hi/Lo 8 or Better, and there were 833 contestants, a seventeen percent increase in the number of participants, when compared to the previous year. In spite of tough competition, Thang Luu collected his bracelet by winning the event and walked away with a whopping cash prize of $243,356. As of 2008, his total winnings have amounted to $464,684.
His 2008 win has helped him in gaining considerable confidence in his own ability, and Thang Luu is looking forward to many more victories. He is a mixed-game specialist and plays Razz, 2-7 Triple Draw, and also Badugi, which is his most favorite game. Thang Luu likes to spend his vacation in Vietnam with his family and friends.
