Surinder Sunar, a British professional poker player, was born on April 1, 1959, in Dhinpur Punjab, India but he currently lives in Wolverhampton. He gained his fame as a three-time finalist in the Late Night Poker television series. At the poker table, Sunar is a famous for his face expressionless, patience and behavior of a true player – it is no wonder they call him “poker face”, so he has been one of the top players on the European circuit for a long time.
His first step into the world of professional poker was in May 1990, in the 21st Annual World Series of Poker event, where he finished 3rd and gained the prize of $35,500. He didn’t make it to the first place then, but that did not bring him down – he later had four 1st place finishes. The first one was in August, 2002 in the Legends of Poker WPT Season 1, when he earned the prize of $28,800. The second one was in April, 2004, in the Five-Star World poker Classic – WPT Championship Season 2, where he earned $25,000.
Sunar also won the Season 3 World poker Tour Grand Prix de Paris event, when he defeated Tony G in the heads-up confrontation with A7o, earning the €679,000 grand prize. He does not participate in tournaments that much these days, because of the rigorous concentration that is required, but still continues to play for fun. However, he has proven by now just how valuable player he is and that is proven by the fact that as of 2008, his total live tournament winnings exceed $3,400,000.
