Sorel Mizzi, a native of Toronto, Ontaria, was born on April 16, 1986. Whether it’s playing Scrabble, video poker, or solving puzzles on the Wheel of Fortune, he is highly competitive, mainly because he grew up in a household where he had to constantly lock horns with two older brothers.

Sorel Mizzi started playing Texas Hold’em in high school when he was barely 18 years old. Josh “JJprodigy” Fields, one of the world’s youngest poker players, is the person who taught Sorel Mizzi the basic and key concepts of poker. Though Josh taught him the fundamentals of the game, Sorel Mizzi has evolved his own distinct style by learning through trial and error.

This Canadian has played on nearly all poker sites, which gave a boost to his online ranking. Ever since he switched from playing limit cash games to tournaments, Sorel Mizzi has always been near or at the top of the online leaderboards. He plays under the nickname “zangbezan24” on PokerStars and “Imper1um” on Full Tilt Poker, accumulating more than $1 million in online tournament winnings.

The year 2006 saw Sorel Mizzi winning $6,306 at the Aruba Classic No-Limit Hold’em Championship. His best live tournament win was on April 9, 2007, at the PaddyPower Irish Open Main Event, in which he finished third place to take home prize money of $275,230. In the same month, Sorel Mizzi ranked first in the World Poker Tour (WPT) World Championship – Season 5, winning $25,700. He had another big win the same year at the WPT No-Limit Hold’em Championship in which he won $154,705. The next two to three months saw Sorel Mizzi cashing in different events. In June 5, 2007, he secured seventeenth place in the World Series of Poker (WSOP) – Event 8 No-Limit Hold’em and walked away with $18,745. Later that month, he again took home $15,547 at the WSOP – Event 38 No-Limit Hold’em. In the following month, Sorel Mizzi bagged a whopping $51,398 at the WSOP – Event 55 No-Limit Hold’em Championship. On April 17, 2008, he won $38,532 as prize money and secured fifty-fifth place at the European Poker Tour (EPT) Monte Carlo Grand Final. He cashed $2,456 at the Caesars Las Vegas Poker Tournament – WSOP Circuit event, by finishing off in the sixteenth place. In June 2008, he ranked sixty-eighth in the WSOP – Event 5 No-Limit Hold’em and earned $8,103. Having secured twenty-ninth position at the WSOP – Event 24 Pot-Limit Hold'em & Omaha in the same month, Sorel Mizzi won $6,306 as prize money.

Sorel Mizzi has live tournament winnings of $599,043, as of 2007. With cash pouring in from online and live tournaments, Sorel Mizzi is the proud owner of a Porsche Boxster and a house at a very young age. During summer, he plans to live in Canada while in winter Sorel Mizzi wants to have a place in Costa Rica or somewhere warm, but he certainly has no plans of moving to Las Vegas. This young poker player aims to have zero mistakes in his live tournaments and tries to play with the same accuracy and confidence as he does online.
