Scotty Nguyen

Scotty (Thuan) Nguyen was born October 28th, 1962 in Nha Trang, Vietnam and is a professional poker player. Scotty Nguyen won the 1998 World Series of Poker Main Event and earned himself four WSOP bracelets. Furthermore, Nguyen is considered to be one of the most active players in professional poker history from 2000 to 2004 when he finished in the money in over 100 events. Scotty Nguyen is a recognised and well-respected figure in the poker world. Nguyen is notably famous for coining the phrase, “That’s poker baby”. Scotty Nguyen has been described by his opponents as amiable and full of emotion when he plays. But Nguyen’s reputation for being a relaxed and easy-going player shouldn’t distract you from his lethal poker play, and his 80% success rate at the pro-poker tables. Scotty Nguyen has been quoted, "I've been there so many times that I'm relaxed. I know the players and I know what to do." During the 1998 World Series of Poker during the main event’s final hand, Nguyen was dealt a full house and he made his most memorable quote yet by saying to his opponent Kevin McBride, “You call, gonna be all over baby!” and taking home his $1,000,000 first place prize money. Unfortunately, Scotty Nguyen’s triumph was short-lived when he received news the next day that his brother was killed in a car accident in Vietnam and since then, Scotty is not seen wearing his 1998 WSOP bracelet.

Scotty Nguyen won the World Poker Tour event in January 2006 after making several WPT final tables but never taking first place. To date, Scotty Nguyen is one of 5 other professional poker players to win both the main event of the World Series of Poker (WSOP) and World Poker Tour (WPT) titles. Nguyen earned himself a second place finish at the 2007 World Series of Poker in the Seven Card Stud (Hi/Low) event which was won by Eli Elezra. Scotty Nguyen also made a final table of the 2007 World Series of Poker at the main event where he finished in eleventh place out of 6,358 entrants and earning $476,926. As of 2008, Scotty Nguyen’s live tournament winnings have exceeded $7,600,000.
