Russ Boyd, commonly know as “Dutch” Boyd, is a professional poker player from Columbia, Missouri. He was born in 1980 and grew up with his mother and younger brother. They both were very intelligent and have an IQ of 150. When Russ Boyd was 11, he skipped a couple of grades, and soon after started taking college classes. Not much later Russ Boyd graduated with an Associates degree at the young age of 13. At the age of 18 he received a law Degree but later decided he didn't want to be a lawyer because most of the lawyers Russ Boyd worked for didn't seem to be happy with their jobs.
Russ Boyd`s interest in poker was provoked after watching the movie “Rounders”. In the main character he saw himself – a law student, who did not want to do this job. This movie stimulated him to start playing online at play money sites where he earned good money. Russ Boyd has been playing poker since the age of eighteen and has invested some of the money from his wins in books to educate himself and improve his skills.
In May 2000 Russ Boyd and his brother decided to start an online casino, specializing in poker. Thanks to the loan of $50,000 from their family and friends, they opened the PokerSpot casino, but soon there were some financial problems and they were obliged to close it, leaving about 1,000 of the 8,500 registered players who had real-money deposits unable to cash out. Although the closure was legitimate, many people believe that Russ Boyd and his brother stole the money. After that Russ Boyd went to Las Vegas, where he found himself deep in the poker world again and decided to stay. He played in a few tournaments and cashed in some WSOP events. Russ Boyd won his first WSOP bracelet in the 2006 $2,500 Short-Handed No-Limit Hold'em event. Russ Boyd had a good year in 2007 when he entered the WSOP and made two final tables. He had a 3rd place finish in Event 25, the World Championship $3,000 buy-in Seven-Card Stud Hi-Lo tournament, from which he won $71,650 and came in 5th in the $5,000 NLHE Shorthanded Event for $169,369.
Russ Boyd is a member of “The Crew”, a group of poker-playing professionals and friends which included Scott Fischman, Robert Boyd, David Smyth, Joe Bartholdi Jr, Tony Lazar, and Brett Jungblut. After his first failure with PokerSpot, Russ Boyd started a new site, called RakeFree. It is an online cardroom that doesn’t take a lot in rakes. Russ Boyd wants to play in the Legends of Poker World Poker Tour event at the Bicycle Casino in Los Angeles. Then it's probably back home for a while where the only poker he will play online cash games.
