Robert Betts is a professional poker player from Albuquerque, New Mexico. On the poker scene for over a decade, Betts made his first major tournament appearance at the Four Queens Poker Classic in Las Vegas in January 1997. Competing in the $1,000 Pot Limit Hold'em event with 86 other entrants, Betts finished 2nd and took home $17,400 of the $87,000 pool.
After a 13th place finish in a $1,000 Pot Limit Hold'em at the L.A. Poker Classic in 2002, Robert Betts competed in two $300 Pot Limit Hold'em events at Larry Flynt's Poker Challenge Cup in Gardena in March 2003. Betts finished 8th in both events, earning $750 in one and $1,015 in the other.
One of Robert Betts’s finest tournament performances came in March 2004 at the World Poker Challenge in Reno. Playing in the $500 No Limit Hold'em event with 369 other competitors, all vying for a chunk of the $179,450 prize pool, Betts finished second only to fellow American Alan Myerson, and took home a handsome $33,127.
Robert Betts’ maiden tournament win came at a Bellagio weekly tournament in Las Vegas in April 2004. One of 70 entrants competing for a share in the $33,950 pot in the $500 No Limit Hold'em event, Betts fared well in the competition and took home a winner’s check of $13,579.
Betts participated in his first World Series of Poker in its 26th edition in June-July 2005. In the first of his two events that year, Betts finished 134th in the $2,000 No Limit Hold'em event with earnings of $2,325. His second outing was the $3,000 No Limit Hold'em event. Competing with over 1,000 entrants for the $2,787,600 prize pool, Robert Betts finished 6th and with it an impressive $139,380.
Betts’s biggest single event earnings came in the $10,000 No Limit Texas Hold'em World Championship event at the 37th World Series of Poker in July 2006. In a huge field of 8,773 competitors with over $82 million to play for, Betts finished 39th and walked away with $247,399 for his efforts.
Robert Betts returned to the World Series of Poker in 2008, where he participated in the $10,000 World Championship No Limit Hold'em event with 6,843 others. Eyeing a share of the $6,433,600 prize pool, Betts finished 137th, leaving the Rio $41,816 richer.
