He began making waves in the professional poker arena with his performance at the Danish Championships, where he competed in the No-Limit Hold'em Event. On September 7, 2007, at the Casino Copenhagen, one hundred and fifty players contributed to a prize pool of $793,811 and Rasmus Nielsen managed to finish in thirty-second place earning a humble $3,175. On November 29, 2007, he competed in a field of 140 players at the Caribbean Poker Classic held at the St. Kitts Marriott Resort & the Royal Beach Casino, where he finished a decent twelfth in the No-Limit Hold’em event.
However, his first final-table finish and first six-digit prize money in the international poker world came at the European Poker Tour (EPT) Scandinavian Open – Season 4. On February 23, 2008, Rasmus Nielsen participated in the European Poker Tour No-Limit Hold’em event at the Casino Copenhagen and reached the final table with an impressive performance. From there, he went on to finish fourth and added an awesome $274,907 to his bankroll. Rasmus Nielsen made his presence felt at the 39th World Series of Poker (WSOP), when he participated in the $1,500 No-Limit Hold’em event. The venue, Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, played host to an incredible 2,717 poker players who contributed to a prize pool of $3,710,070. Rasmus Nielsen played well and managed to reach the final table for the second time. At the final table, he was the leading chip holder and continued his impressive run to reach the heads-up stage , but lost to J.C. Tran, who went on to win the event. Rasmus Nielsen bagged an astounding $389,557 for his runner-up finish, this being his biggest cash-in, till date.
