Randy Holland

Randy Holland was born in 1951 in Calgary, Canada, but currently lives in Winnetka, Los Angeles. He is married to Laurenae, who also enjoys playing poker, and is the father of two children. After graduating from Florida State University, he entered the world of law and worked for the government. At the age of forty, Randy Holland wanted to do something different with his life, so he turned to poker. He started by playing very low limit home poker games in Florida. In 1984, he began playing $1 to $4 games at a casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. As his interest in poker developed, Randy Holland visited Las Vegas more often to take part in tournaments and to see his parents, who were living in the neighboring state of California. In the early 90s, after casino poker was legalized, he started to play in Mississippi, and it was there that Randy Holland first started to take poker seriously. Early on in his career, he was influenced by the aggressive style of Jack Keller and John Bonetti, American professional poker players.

What was once a hobby quickly became a profession for Randy Holland. In April 1993, he ranked eighth and bagged $11,040 in Event #4 of the 24th Annual World Series of Poker (WSOP) Limit Hold’em. In the following year, he came fifth in the 10th Annual Diamond Jim Brady No-Limit Hold’em Event. In 1995, he again proved his expertise in the game by securing third place in the Poker Classic 7-Card Stud.

It was in the year 1996, however, when Randy Holland won his first tournament, bagging $87,000 at the 27th Annual WSOP Event #6 WSOP Limit Razz. In February 1998, he again ranked first at the Los Angeles Poker Classic No-Limit Hold'em and walked away with $42,120. When he ranked first in Event #5 Annual WSOP Limit 7 Card Stud Hi/Lo in April 2000, he earned another $120,990.

In January 2001, he made $49,761 by ranking fourth in the 1st Annual World Poker Challenge Event #16 - Main Event - No-Limit Hold'em. In February, Randy Holland walked away with a whopping $165,945 and a first-place finish in Event #1 Limit Hold’em at the L. A. Poker Classic. Later that year, he won the Legends of Poker No-Limit Hold’em and took home $40,250.

In April 2002, Randy Holland finished second in Event #6 Limit Omaha of the 33rd Annual WSOP and made $36,660. In January 2003, he added $163,505 to his earnings, after securing first place in Event #2 Limit Hold’em of the L.A. Poker Classic - World Poker Tour (WPT) Season 1. In 2004, Randy Holland participated in the 6th Annual Tunica Classic and came first in both the No-Limit Hold’em and Pot Limit Omaha events, making a total of $32,115 in winnings. His participation in the 39th WSOP 2008 H.O.R.S.E helped him earn $11,070 on June 29th. As of 2008, his total live tournament earnings exceed $3,000,000.
Randy Holland is a big movie buff who loves going to theaters and concerts. He also enjoys traveling and has made several trips to Europe, America, and Costa Rica.
