Before poker, Oscar Silow was a student pursuing a degree in pharmaceutical bioscience. Finding it difficult to secure a suitable job to support himself, Silow decided that poker was the only way to go and trained himself vigorously and soon graduated from full ring games to 6 player matches.
Oscar Silow feels the real enjoyment in player poker lies in live tournaments. Although he dislikes playing online, Silow regards himself mostly as a cash game player while doing his best to avoid online cash live tournaments. Placing more importance on fun, he does his best to enter a number of different tournaments. This way he can hedge his bets and not put all his eggs in one basket.
Silow struck gold in 2005 when he entered the WSOP event for the first time and finished in 14th place, earning $400,000. His next big win came in 2007 when he finished in 2nd place in the Malmo 2007 No Limit Hold’em main event with around $80,000. In 2008, Oscar Silow won $13,237 for his 26th place finish at the European Poker Tour and finished in 478th place at the WSOP event.
Oscar Silow has said that he is looking forward to entering the Malmo Open in August 2008 and the World Poker Tour as well as the Asian Pacific Poker Tour in 2008.
Silow openly admits that he was never good at bankroll/money management and as he racked up experience, he started getting better at the game. For aspiring poker players, Oscar Silow has this to say –
1. Never let your ego hold you back when the chips are down.
2. Stay sharp when it comes to bankroll management and seek advice from veterans and poker buddies alike.
