Recognized among his countrymen as their finest poker player, Sweden's Mikael Thuritz has carved a niche for himself in the world of poker. Starting with online Role Playing Games such as StarCraft and Diablo at a very early age, Mikael Thuritz turned his attention to poker during his early school days and further developed his focus.
Driven by his highly ambitious nature, Mikael Thuritz convincingly won 2nd place along with total earnings of around $400,000 at the No Limit Hold’em Championship held in London in the year 2005. This was his first big break after he turned 18. Following this, Mikael Thuritz finished in 26th place at the No Limit Hold’em Championship at the 4th Annual Five-Star Poker Classic in 2006, winning a rather tidy sum of $87,875.
Known by his nickname "Tipex", Thuritz, was always a ‘cash-player’. But he began consciously to shed this image by entering more tournaments to prove his skill. This decision by Mikael Thuritz made him even more popular as competing players found themselves on the razor edge when facing off against Thuritz.
Tournaments he took part in the year 2007 include the Bellagio Cup III. Thuritz played in the No Limit Hold'em category winning $47,290 and earned second place. He scored another win that year in December at the Bellagio Five Diamond World Poker - Doyle Brunson Classic. In this tournament Thuritz played in the No Limit Hold'em category where he won as much as $57,815 and was ranked 21st. This year at the 6th Annual Five-Star World Poker Classic 2008, Thuritz played in the No-Limit Hold'em Championship where he earned $39,570 as prize money and was ranked 71st.
Mikeal Thuritz now lives in Las Vegas with his girlfriend and is completely committed to poker. Ambitious as ever, Mikael took a step further and joined the Team Martins Poker in order to work on his skill as a strong team player.
