Lawson was defeated by compatriot Jack Hinchey, forcing him to settle for second place at the final table of the 888.com $3 Million Guaranteed World Poker Crown. More than 2,000 players entered the tournament as a crowd, primarily consisting of Canadians and Dutchmen, watched eagerly.
The final event took place in Perlada Castle in Spain, where Jack Hinchey, Michael Lawson, Mark Castonguay, Michael Leah, Bart Wetsteijn, Arjan van Bavel, Gijsbert van Doesburg, and Mark Rossler competed for the big money.
Michael Lawson found it difficult keeping up with Jack Hinchey in the early stages, but somehow managed to hang in. Hinchey, however, eventually ran away with the victory, and with it $1,000,000 in prize money, while Lawson had to settle for $397,800 and second place.
