Mats Gavatin is a professional poker player from Lidingo, Sweden. On the poker circuit since 2003, the Swede hit the big time in October 2005 at the European Poker Tour’s The Irish Winter Festival of Poker at the Merrion Casino Club in Dublin. Fighting his way through a field of 248 entrants, Gavatin finished on top and earned himself a substantial winner’s check of $382,522.
Gavatin picked up his second tournament win at the Gutshot.com European Series of Poker in London in May 2006. In the $3,448 Showdown Poker Tour No Limit Hold'em event, Mats Gavatin fought off competition from Englishmen Barny Boatman and Dan Wicks to emerge victorious and take home the prize money of $71,954.
Mats Gavatin traveled to America for the 37th World Series of Poker in July 2006, where he competed in two events. He picked up 11th place in the $2,000 No Limit Hold'em event and with it $45,980 as prize money. In his second event, the $5,000 Short Handed No Limit Hold'em, Gavatin earned $11,319 for his 20th place finish.
The Swede returned to Vegas in June 2008 for the 39th World Series of Poker. In the $5,000 No Limit Hold'em Shootout event, Mats Gavatin finished 31st in a field of 360 and picked up a check of $16,920. In his second event, Gavatin put up an impressive display to make the final table in the $1,500 Limit/No Limit Hold'em event. He eventually finished 7th and took home a check of $34,923 from the $1 million prize pool.
