Mark Vos, commonly known as “pokerbok”, was born on October 20, 1983. He is a young professional poker player from Cape Town, South Africa, currently residing in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. Mark Vos went to Waldorf High School in Constantia and was amazing at mathematics olympiads while there as he even used to represente his province in the interprovincial olympiad. Mark Vos then went to college at the Macquarie University, but not long after entering he permanently ended his education to play poker full time. Mark Vos began playing live games with his friends, but soon became more interested in online poker.
Mark Vos started playing online limit hold'em in the middle of 2004 and soon came to his attention the no-limit games. In a very short period of time, Mark Vos became known as being one of the world's best online poker players. The kind that can frequently be found in the most expensive cash games and tournaments online. In January 2006, Mark Vos placed 8th in the main event of the Crown Australian Poker Championship, winning $83,600. In May 2006 Mark Vos became the representer of the Full Tilt Poker online poker cardroom as a friend of Full Tilt Poker. Two months later Mark Vos won the 2006 World Series of Poker - $2000 no limit hold 'em event. Defeating more than 1919 players, Vos collected $803,274 and a gold bracelet, which made him one of the youngest WSOP bracelet winners in history. In an interview after his victory, Mark Vos stated that, "Winning does not really change things. I mean, it helps. But I still plan to play poker, then in five years I'll relax, settle down and decide what I want to do with the rest of my life". Mark Vos has also managed to cash in four times at the 2008 World Series of Poker.
As of 2008, altogether Mark Vos has total live tournament winnings of $1,200,000, 4 first place finishes, 24 money cashes and 1 WSOP bracelet.
When Mark Vos is not travelling around the world playing poker, he likes to spend his time in Australia and South Africa. His ambition is to use poker to set up the rest of his life.
