Magnus Hansen

Magnus Hansen

Magnus Hansen, upcoming Danish professional poker player, won third place at the European Poker Tour (EPT) Scandinavian Open – Season 4 in the No-Limit Hold’em event on February 23, 2008. He walked away with $360,351 in prize money for his brilliant game, outlasting four hundred and sixty players.

There were eight players at the starting of the final table, including Magnus Hansen who had a stack of 458,000. Tim Vance, an American professional player, was the chip leader with a stack of 1,408,000. Just after an hour in the final table, Daniel Ryan, another American professional player, raised to 35k on the button and Patrick Andersson, a Swedish player, pushed all-in after losing a bit of his stack during the game, for another 102k. Daniel Ryan called and when the hands were flipped up, he showed A5 to Patrick Andersson’s K6, eliminating Patrick in eighth place for $113,151.

Magnus Hansen was among the four players at the final table. On a JTx flop, both Magnus Hansen and Tim Vance got it in, when Magnus Hansen flopped a set of tens and Tim Vance was holding A-J with a flush possibility. Magnus Hansen held on and the turn brought another diamond, Tim Vance was left with a four flush, but a blank on the river helped Magnus Hansen to move up to 810k. Magnus Hansen was in a comfortable position now with 959,000 and very close to Tim Vance’s 997,000.

A little later in the game, Tim Vance called-in with A-K and dismissed the Danish player, Simon Dorslund, in the seventh place, who was holding A-8.

Soren Jensen, the Danish player, called with an A-7, when Nicholas Dervaux, a French player, moved all-in with J-5. Though Dervaux was in a better position when a jack came on the flop, his luck ran out, for an ace on the turn put Jensen in a more advantageous position. Nicholas Dervaux was dismissed in the sixth place.

After dismissing Daniel Ryan for the fifth place, Rasmus Nielsen, Danish player, was the fourth person to leave the final table.

Magnus Hansen gave a tough competition but fortune did not favor him and he walked out winning the third place.
His EPT Ranking is 68 and 2008 POY Rank is 160. A lot more interesting poker is expected from this talented, promising Danish poker professional.
