Layne Flack, aka "Back to back", was born on May 18th, 1969 in Rapid City, South Dakota, grew up in Montana and currently resides in Las Vegas, Nevada. As a kid, Layne Flack used to play card games such as pinochle with his grandparents, but his passion for poker only surfaced many years later, in 1987. After he graduated high school, Layne Flack got a job in a casino. Soon enough Layne Flack found himself spending off-work time in the casino, playing poker. Later on he quit his casino job, even though he became a Night Manager there, since he lost too much money playing poker.
After a while in the casino-poker business, Layne Flack decided to enroll to college, and even as he was studying he used to play poker in various casinos on his weekends and off-terms. Eventually, like many others who choose professional poker over the academy, Layne Flack decided to quit college and focus on what he now realized was his future career – the poker world.
In 1993 Layne Flack and his then girlfriend moved from Montana to Reno, where he could develop his poker skills and improve his game. Johnny Chan, a top-league professional poker player, was the one who helped Layne Flack improve his game, as well as Huck Seed. Layne Flack met the latter in 1995, after Layne's daughter Hailey was born and the family moved back to Montana. These two players mentored him well, and encouraged Layne Flack to get back to the poker table after a great loss, knowing he had what it takes to become a truly successful poker player.
By 1997, Huck Seed convinced Layne Flack that poker may be his chosen career course, but the only way to do it for real is in Las Vegas, Nevada. And so, after a long time and many dilemmas, Layne Flack moved to Las Vegas by himself in order to "make it big" in the professional poker scene.
2004 wasn't a very good year for Layne Flack. He drank a lot of alcohol and started using psychoactive drugs until his girlfriend and his friend, poker player Daniel Negreanu, decided it was enough. Layne's girlfriend picked an appropriate rehab center and Negreanu paid $60,000 to get him into that facility. Apparently it worked, since after a while Layne Flack came back to the poker scene as strong and competent as ever.
Over the years Layne Flack won over 60 poker tournaments (some estimate it to be more, if you take minor tournaments into consideration), with 14 first place finishes so far, 6 (!) of which brought him WSOP bracelets. Yes, Layne Flack is the proud owner of six WSOP bracelets, from the years 1999, 2002 (he got two bracelets that year), 2003 (two more bracelets) and 2008. Layne Flack also won the 1st place in a WPT Season 2 Omaha Hi/Lo tournament. The highest amount of money Layne Flack has ever won in a poker tournament is $577,725, on June 18th, 2008, in the 39th WSOP Pot Limit Omaha – a tournament that also won him his 6th WSOP bracelet.
When not playing poker, Layne Flack likes to listen to 80's music, play golf and bowling. He actually scored a perfect 300 points bowling game and considered becoming a professional bowling player. Luckily, Layne Flack preferred the poker scene over the world of bowling. Also, he is single and has one daughter, Hailey.
