John Kranyak is a 24-year-old poker player from Margaretville, New York. Kranyak started out as a bridge player and even carried the US flag at the opening ceremony of the 4th International Olympic Committee Grand Prix, a major tournament featuring the world's top bridge players. He started playing bridge when he was just 12, and by the time he was 13, he was a master.
Kranyak soon graduated to poker and plays both online and live tournament poker. He can often be found on PokerStars.com under his nickname “johnnykran”. John Kranyak’s biggest online performance came at the PokerStars Super Tuesday in March 2008, where he finished 2nd and gathered earnings of $54,209. He is, however yet to win an online poker tournament.
In live tournaments too, a first place finish has so far eluded John Kranyak, his best finish being 2nd place in his first major live tournament - Bellagio Cup III in Las Vegas in June 2007. In the $1,000 Nightly No Limit Hold'em event, Kranyak finished runner-up to Stephen Madden and took home earnings of $38,055.
John Kranyak notched an impressive performance at the 38th World Series of Poker in Las Vegas in June 2007. In a field of 2,788 with a prize pool of $3,791,970, Kranyak made the final table and finished 4th, earning $170,639 in the $1,500 No Limit Hold'em event.
Kranyak’s biggest ever event earning came at the Borgata Poker Open in Atlantic City in September 2007. Participating in the $ 9,700 No Limit Hold'em Championship Event, which consisted of 560 entrants and a prize pool of $ 5,432,000, John Kranyak took 7th place and with it earnings of $217,280.
At the 39th World Series of Poker in July 2008, John Kranyak finished 7th in the $1,500 Limit Hold'em Shootout event, earning $13,480.
