Jen Svoertmann

Jen Svoertmann

Jens Voertmann, born in Dortmund, Germany, is a 38-year-old professional poker player, sponsored by Full Tilt Poker. He has always had a passion for card games, but it was not until 2003 that he started playing poker. He read some books and information about poker and begun to build his skills with his friends and in local casinos. Of course, as his game developed, so did his bank roll and after experiencing quite pleasing success, Jens made the decision to start a professional career in poker, leaving his job as a financing specialist.

At first he was more fond of ring games than tournaments, but after taking first place in the Bregenz open, he decided to take tournament play much more seriously, so he entered the Main Event of the 2005 World Series of Poker and cashed for more than $33,000.

Less than a month later, Jens went back on European soil and took first place, earning €23,000, at the Bodensee Poker Championship in Austria. After that he went on making tournament appearances and scored big again in 2007, at the EPT €5,000 Main Event in Dortmund, where he worked his way through a field of almost 500 players and finish 17th, taking home well over €12,000.

However, Jens Voertmann’s greatest performance to date was in the 2008 World Series of Poker, where he faced a starting field of 414 competitors and worked his way to a pro-heavy final table, including Team Full Tilt’s Jennifer Harman and FTP pro Steve Zolotow. Then Jens finished 1st and earned the prize of $298,000 along with his first bracelet.

Since the beginning of his career, his total live tournament earnings exceed $300,000. With performances like his, it is very likely that we will see a lot more from Jens Voertmann as he makes his way to the top of his career.
