Jan Sorensen was born in 1960 by the name of Jan Vang Hansen, but changed it legally to his mothers maiden name – Sorensen between 2002 and 2005. His hometown is Odense, Denmark. At the age of 18 Jan Sorensen began playing football and had joined the Danish Superliga, representing Odense BK, but unfortunately when he turned 30, Jan Sorensen suffered a knee injury, which ended his football career, but on the other hand gave a start to his poker career. It was during his football career that Jan Sorensen learned how to play poker, while traveling in the bus with his teammates. He is now thought of as a seven-card stud specialist. Jan Sorensen has even represented Denmark in the Poker Nations Cup.
Altogether Jan Sorensen has 6 first place finishes, 28 cashes, 2 WSOP bracelets and his lifetime winnings come up to $1,200,000. The first time that Jan Sorensen finished in the money was in the World Series of Poker in 1995, where he placed 16th, but it was not until 2002 that he won his first WSOP bracelet in the $2,500 pot limit Omaha event and took a $185,000 first place prize. Then, 3 years later Jan Sorensen managed to repeat that success when he once again won a bracelet in the $5,000 seven-card stud event, this time earning $293,275.
Jan Sorensen has also managed to finish in the money in WPT events, as he even has one final table finish at the fourth season of Doyle Brunson North American Poker Championship, where he placed 5th.
