James Richberg, sometimes spelled as James Richburg, is a poker player from Long Beach, California, born in 1955. He may not have as many winnings as some of his fellow professional poker players, and he may not participate in as many tournaments as they do, but one thing you can say about James Richberg it that he's consistent. He's been playing poker since he was 26 years old, and so far it doesn't seem like his going to disappear in the near future, if at all.
All in all, James Richberg started his poker career in August 1989, when he took the 4th place in the Limit Hold'em tournament of the 5th Annual Diamond Jim Brady event, along with $18,350. Unlike many professional poker players, James Richberg is not a one-game player. He plays anything – Limit or No Limit – Texas Hold'em, Omaha, 7 Card Stud, H.O.R.S.E, you name it. And not only does he play all these games: he had already proved to be a winner in any style you can think of.
After his success in 1989, James Richberg took a couple of years to relax before hitting the chip stack for the second time, when he took the 2nd place at the 22nd Annual WSOP Limit 7 Card Stud Hi/Lo tournament, along with $53,100. This happened on May 6th, 1991, and everyone was happy. His next cash win was on July 18th, 1993, as James Richberg made it to the 10th place at the Omaha Hi/Lo tournament of the Gold Coast Open, earning a mere $645.
One thing is easily seen when looking at the poker career of James Richberg – as consistent as he is playing poker, he had some major, few years breaks between his winnings, at least in the beginning. Once in so many years James Richberg would appear in a tournament, as unexpected as anything, make a modest winning of some 3 or 4-digits sum, and then disappear back into wherever he came from.
That pattern seemed to change a little in the year 2006, when James Richberg managed to win cash in more than five live tournaments, three of them WPT or WSOP events, and the last of which – the 37th Annual WSOP Razz Seven Card tournament, on July 22nd, 2006, won James Richberg his first 1st place, earning him $139,576 and his first WSOP bracelet.
It was expected of him to continue participating in various live professional poker tournaments, but James Richberg chose to spend some more time with his family, and the next live professional poker tournament he made cash in, was also the one that won him his second WSOP bracelet, a single year after winning his first. It was on June 9th, 2007, at the 38th Annual WSOP. James Richberg played the H.O.R.S.E tournament, won the 1st place, the WSOP bracelet and $239,503.
Ever since then, James Richberg was seen making cash in only one more event – the 39th Annual WSOP. In these events he made cash in two tournaments, but never made it to more than the 9th place, and cashed a total of less than $30,000. From what we've seen so far, James Richberg might just as well come back next year, and surprise us by winning a third WSOP bracelet, or not. Who knows?
