While at Caltech, he took a leave of absence in 1989 to play poker and never saw his college again.

Huck Seed has an intimidating presence at the table because of his stone-cold silence and his height at 6 ft 7 in. In 1990, on his maiden entry into the World Series of Poker, he finished fourth in the Limit Hold’em and Seven Card Stud Hi-Lo events. In the following years, Huck Seed consistently cashed in other tournaments and earned quite a tidy sum. But his first major victory at a big level came at the World Series of Poker in 1994, where he emerged victorious in the Pot-Limit Omaha event. This feat brought him his first gold bracelet at the WSOP and he pocketed $167,000 in cash.

Huck Seed played brilliantly at the World Series of Poker tournament held in 1996. He won his second gold bracelet by placing first in the $10,000 No-Limit Hold’em event and walked away with a whopping $1,000,000. Huck Seed showcased a tremendous temperament, composed demeanor, and brilliant card play till the final table and brought down his opponent Bruce Van Horn. In honor of this victory, his picture joined that of the other poker legends on Binion’s Wall of Champions.

Huck Seed also had an impressive victory outside of the WSOPs, at the 1998 Carnivale of Poker in Las Vegas championship where he pocketed $306,000 for his first place finish. In 1999, he made it to the final table in the Main Event of the WSOP and earned $167,000. Huck Seed was the proud recipient of his third WSOP gold bracelet in 2000 and took home $77,400 in the Razz event.

On May 11, the same year, Huck Seed again established his supremacy in the Razz event at the World Series of Poker by finishing first and got his fourth WSOP gold bracelet and took away $71,500 in prize money.

Huck Seed became a threat to the other players at the World Poker Tours as well when he came first at the World Poker Finals WPT Season 2 in the No-Limit Hold’em event held on November 1, 2003, and bagged $88,230. On October 11, 2004 he pulled out another victory in the No-Limit Hold’em event at the 2004 Festa al Lago III /Doyle Brunson North American Poker Championship - WPT Event Season 3 and smiled all the way with $135,582 in his kitty.

Huck Seed had his most recent victory on 6 March, 2008 at the Canadian Open Poker Championship in the No-Limit Hold’em Championship and he was given $82,005 as prize money. A recent record suggests that Huck Seed has had 74 cashes, 4 WSOP bracelets, 11 first place finishes, and he holds the 55th place in the ProRank 1. His total tournament winnings, as of 2008, exceed a staggering $4,100,000, and he also plays online at his sponsor site, Full Tilt Poker.

Huck Seed is known for taking on bets outside of poker; he once made a bet with Phil Hellmuth, a professional poker player that he could stand in the ocean for eighteen hours with water up to his shoulders.
