Hasan Habib was born on April 19th, 1962 in Karachi, Pakistan in a wealthy family with an established business in philanthropy. When he was only fourteen, Hasan Habib won a tennis National championship and later, when he became 18, went to USA to study business at the University of Redlands.
His first encounter with card games was in 1985. He was still in university when he started playing poker as a distraction for his free time. Later, however, it became more than just a distraction: it was a newly found passion supported with an adequate portion of talent. As his interest began to grow, Hasan Habib started learning as much as he could about the game, including talks and discussions with other poker pros at the time. Poker became very profitable for him, since he was not relying on any financial support from his family anymore.
Hasan’s first professional entry took place in 1998, when he started participating in small poker tournaments. At the beginning he lived in a rented hotel room, near a Los Angeles casino, where he payed with $ 25 each day. That was until the World Series of Poker championship, which he entered in 2000. He finished the tournament by cashing $ 80,000 in the $2,500 Limit Omaha Hi-Lo event. After that, Hasan’s decision was clear: he wanted to play poker, full time.
The success for Hasan Habib continued later on in 2004 when he won his gold bracelet at the WSOP $1,500 Seven Card Stud Hi-Lo Split event cashing $93,060. Then again in the same year he finished 2nd in the World Poker Tour (WPT) $25,000 Tournament, coming out of it with a prize of $1,372,233. The winnings in 2004 continued when he entered for the second time the $25,000 WPT Championship. This time, however, he finished in third place, receiving $896,375.
The next big win for Hasan Habib happened the following year in September. He participated in the opening of the No Limit Hold'em event of PokerStars' 4th annual World Championship of Online Poker, taking home the impressive amount of $306,000. His total cash amount in 2008 exceeded $ 4,200,000.
Although he enjoys online poker games, Hasan Habib prefers much more live tournaments, where he can play in real time. With his wins and unpredictable playing tactics, Hasan Habib has proved himself as a highly skilled professional poker player. Aside from the game table he is an ordinary guy, who likes to do ordinary things, like going to the movies with his friends and clubs too. He also has a thing for travelling, and wishes to visit Mexico, Costa Rica, and Europe some day. Hasan Habib is currently single.
