Erik Marcus Friberg is a poker player who was born on 03.02.1983 in Stockholm, Sweden. He started playing at high school while still a teenager. His talents quickly began to outpace those of his friends and he started developing his professional skills. However, he always felt he needed real action, so he entered the big competition through the Internet. Later on, because of poker, Friberg quit university to play full time and try to make it as a professional online player. The online tournaments were a good start, followed by traveling the live tournaments circuit.
His first serious tournament with a considerable victory came in 2004, at the European Poker Tour`s Barcelona Open, where he finished at 26-th place. The next grand victory for Erik Friberg came in 2005, when he finished first in the Swedish Poker Challenge`s No-Limit Hold`em and earned a prize of $87,287. Currently Erik Friberg is one of the best online poker players in his country. And Sweden is ranked as the most successful country of poker games. His poker nickname is “Lirarerik” (“Lirar” is a Swedish slang for gambler).
In the process of the game Erik Friberg is naturally an aggressive player. He loves to put pressure on his opponents and maybe that is reason why he is not among the vanquished ones. Friberg thinks that in order for one to be a good player, it takes good reading skills and also ability to set traps and put other people on tilt. Erik considers that the poker game is like a boxing match in which a lot of psychology is involved.
As of 2008 his live tournament winnings exceed $2,500,000, to prove his skills in the game. Friberg said he planned to spend his World Series of Poker winnings on gambling, maybe because he never had a real job, so he has never learned to appreciate the real value of money.
