In the poker world the Brenes family is very well known. Humberto Brenes, often called the Godfather of Cost Rican Players and his brother Alex, a World Poker Tour champion, have created a dynasty that only lacked its third member. But not for long!
Erick Brenes, the youngest of all, is the lates member of the poker trio.
Although short of winnings from tournaments, Erick Brenes was able to gain a serious amount of earnings from playing consistently at high stake events. This is where he shows much more qualities than his brothers – in pursing jackpots. For example, in 2004 at the World Poker Tour, Erick Brenes was able to win a $1 million cold cash at the No Limit Hold’Em table. That’s pretty impressive, concidering that Alex only managed to take home a six-digit prize as his biggest at the previous World Poker Tour events he participated in. Some of Erick Brenes other most memorable participations include the The Linda Johnson Celebrity Challenge, the Casino Europa - No - Limit Hold 'em Tournament and the First Costa Rican Classic, which Erick Brenes won all.
Despite his family history, poker is not a way of life for Erick Brenes. For him there are far more enjoyable activities like farming, tending to crops and cultivating livestocks. So maybe playing poker is just a way for Erick Brenes to let go of the pressure, spend his free time… with the bonus of earning some impressive jackpots. Basically Erick Brenes is living an ordinary life at his home town San Jose, Costa Rica, and would usually step into the poker scene only when there’s an event that gets his attention.
Both Alex and Erick Brenes managed to make a warm place for themselves in the poker world, showing no less willingness to fight and win than their older brother. Of course, they may not be as brightly shining as Humberto, but they certainly make good members of the dynasty that has been taking over the poker world for decades.
The only thing that’s stopping Erick Brenes to be a total winner is that he really lacks the time to play. His many responsibilities take over most of his days, which is very unfortunate for his fans. Of course, this is the way Erick Brenes chose to live and considering that so far his total tournament winnings exceed $1,049,381, maybe it’s not a bad lifestyle at all!
