Eduard Scharf is a part time, professional poker player, who is popularly called “Eddy” in the poker world. Born on November 7, 1953 in Cologne, Germany, Eduard Scharf started his career as a full-time commercial pilot, working for Lufthansa Airlines. Initially, he believed that poker is a game of luck, but later realized that poker required great skills to win. He is currently living with his wife and two children in Cologne, Germany.

In 1995, he took to poker quite seriously, when the game was getting good popularity in Europe. Eduard Scharf came to international limelight when he won a bracelet at the 32nd Annual World Series of Poker (WSOP) in 2001. He participated in the $1500 Limit Omaha, and took home $83,810 by finishing first in the event. In 2002, he finished third at the No-Limit-Hold’em event of the Midnight Sun tournament and earned $12,891. Later that year, Eduard Scharf finished third at the final table of the Limit Hold’em event of the Master’s Classic tournament, and cashed in $20,033.

A landmark winning for Eduard Scharf came in the year 2003, when he participated in the 34th Annual World Series of Poker. He participated in Event #16 - WSOP Limit Omaha and won a gold bracelet and $63,600 in prize money by finishing first in the event. In May 2004, he cashed in a whopping $275,000 in the 35th Annual World Series of Poker Championship – No-Limit Hold'em event. In 2005, Eduard Scharf finished fourth at the No-Limit Hold'em event of the 6th Jack Binion World Poker Tour (WPT), Season 3, and earned $75,577. In the same year, his seventh-place finish at the final table of the Pot-Limit Omaha event of the 36th WSOP added $88,280 in prize money to his bankroll.

In 2006, Eduard Scharf participated in the Bellagio Cup II tournament that took place at Las Vegas, and he cashed in $22,195 by finishing third in the No-Limit Hold’em event. After a rough spell in 2007, Eduard Scharf made a come-back in 2008 by finishing sixth, and taking home $23,434 at the No-Limit Hold'em event of the Party Poker Late Night Poker tournament.

In February 2008, Eduard Scharf earned $37,431 by finishing first in the No-Limit Hold'em event of the CAPT Bregenz Open. In the same year, he entered Event #46 - WSOP No-Limit Hold'em Six Handed at the 39th World Series of Poker 2008 and won $26,106. He also took part in Event #50 - WSOP Pot-Limit Omaha World Championship and cash prize of $35,814 was added to his bankroll.

Inspite of his busy work schedule, Eduard Scharf likes to spend time reading books on poker and playing local poker tournaments. Currently, he spends his time either flying airplanes for his company, or attending poker tournaments in whichever country he lands. Eduard Scharf loves playing Seven Card Stud and No-Limit Hold’em. He wants to win a gold bracelet at the No-Limit Hold’em event at the WSOP tournament. He admires Asher Derei, Mickey Finn, Marcel Luske, Hans Pfister, and Christoph Wolters, among poker players. Apart from playing poker at tournaments, he also spends time playing online poker at FullTiltPoker. Eduard Scharf is also a regular commentator on German sports television channel. His other interests include playing golf, and watching movies, his favorite being American Beauty, and listening to Yello, a Swiss electronic band. Eduard Scharf has travelled a lot which has helped him in teaching his children about different cultures and languages, which he thinks is vital to their education.
