Douglas Kim is a Korean-American poker player, who was born on November 10th, 1983 in Yonkers, New York. He completed a bachelor’s degree in economics at Duke University and was ready to begin working for a financial consulting firm in Manhattan in December 2006. However, Kim learned poker through home games in college and through posting as 'technologic' on the internet forum hosted by Two Plus Two Publishing.
He won his seat in the World Championship on PokerStars.com on July 23, 2006, a mere five days before the start of the event, and despite his low expectations and the tough competition, he made it to the final table. He played at the same table with several top professionals during the WSOP, including Phil Ivey and Layne Flack.
Kim, who was eliminated by Paul Wasicka, finished in 7th place in the 2006 World Series of Poker main event, earning $2,391,520. Kim was the youngest player ever to make the final table at the main event and the only player at the final table not to be knocked out by Jamie Gold. He had never played poker at a tournament before, and what he achieved was amazing. As of 2008 Doug Kim’s total live tournament earnings exceed $2,400,000.
