David Oppenheim is a professional poker player who was born in Los Angeles, California. He first took up the game during his second year of college, and by the time he was just 20 years old, he became a professional player. Initially, David Oppenheim played low-end games worth $300 to $600. Gradually, he improved his skills and began to participate and win in the World Series of Poker (WSOP) and World Poker Tour (WPT) tournaments.
David Oppenheim entered the 2001 Annual WSOP and made $14,315 in the No-Limit Hold’em event by finishing 11th. In February 2001, he secured third place in the Limit Seven Card Stud event of the Los Angeles Poker Classic WPT Season 1 tournament and earned $36,624 in prize money. David Oppenheim had another impressive third-place finish in the No-Limit Hold’em event of the WPT’s Borgata Poker Open. He made $117,500 at this Atlantic City event. In April 2007, he went to the Bellagio and walked away with $77,350 after playing in the No-Limit Hold’em event of the WPT World Championship. In June, David Oppenheim made a brilliant exit at the final table of the Seven Card Stud event in the 38th WSOP Championship. He finished third and walked away with $93,060 in prize money.
David Oppenheim also participated in the 2008 Mixed Event of the 39th Annual WSOP and earned $45,120. Later that month, he pocketed a whopping $59,408 by ranking seventh in the WSOP Seven Card Stud event. As of 2008, he has $587,422 in total live tournament winnings. He has a reputation for always attending the biggest cash games held around the world, particularly games with $4000 to $8000 limits.
In between live tournaments, David Oppenheim also plays online on Full Tilt Poker. He has made special appearances on Poker After Dark, a late night show that hosts a poker game on screen aired by the National Broadcasting Company. In the nineteenth episode of the show, he competed against popular poker pros Gavin Smith, Erick Lindgren, Phil Ivey, Doyle Brunson, and Daniel Negreanu. David Oppenheim also acted in the movie Lucky You, where his character was named Josh Kohen. Apart for playing poker, he loves to travel, read books, and spend time with his wife and three children. David Oppenheim is an avid golfer as well, and in 2007, he teamed up with Phil Ivey, an American professional poker player, to inaugurate ESPN’s Inaugural High Stakes Entertainment Golf Tour.
