Dave Ulliott was born on January 4th, 1954 in Hull, England and is the son of Stanley Ulliot, a World War II paratrooper. Dave Ulliott is a professional gambler and poker player, including a World Series of Poker bracelet winner, and a popular televised poker figure. Dave Ulliott is famously known for sitting at the poker table wearing tinted glasses, a sharply coloured suit, and donning gold rings that read “Devil” and “Fish”. Dave Ulliott is by far one of poker’s most precocious players. Ulliott start his poker game during his school days, when Dave played cards with his friend. Dave Ulliott goes by the name “Devilfish” which is a nickname that resulted from a game in October 1996.

Dave Ulliott Early Years

Dave Ulliott grew up in a small home in a working class area, with his parents and sister Janet, who later died of cancer. Ulliott dropped out of school at the age of fifteen and remained unmotivated throughout his school years. Dave Ulliott went on to take his first job making trophies for G K Beaulah, and later picked winners at horse racing with his work colleagues. Later, Ulliott was fired from his job for taking an afternoon off to go to the races. In the 1990’s, Dave Ulliott fervently practiced his game, and was winning so much that he found it hard to find a game in England. As the years passed, Dave Ulliott became involved in safe-cracking targeting tobacconists, off-licensees, and garages. Eventually, Dave Ulliott was caught and imprisoned for 9 months. Shortly after his release, Dave Ulliott was arrested again for armed robbery, but released three days later without charge.

Dave Ulliott Professional Poker Career

Dave Ulliott arrived at the 1997 World Series of Poker with $200,000, which Ulliott lost all on cash games and tournament buy-ins. Dave Ulliott was forced to borrow over $70,000 and lost this money in more buy-ins. Ulliott became desperate and barely borrowed enough for a $2,000 pot Limit Hold’em event, where he went head to head with Chris Truby in the final hand. During the final round, Dave Ulliot won with a straight on the river to claim $180,310. In 1999, Dave Ulliott was one of forty poker players to appear in the first series of Late Night Poker television series. Ulliott advanced to the Grand Final, where he dominated the first hand with a flush, beating out Surinder Sunar’s straight. Ulliott went on to confront Peter Evans in the final round, and went on to win the £40,000 first prize. In December 2007, Dave Ulliott came in 3rd place in the World Poker Tour earning another $674,500. As of 2007, Dave Ulliott has exceed $5,100,100 in total live tournament winnings, making him the highest-earning British poker player according to available records
