Daniel Schreiber

Daniel Schreiber, nicknamed “Rekrul”, is a 22-year-old poker player from Seoul, Korea. Born in Troy, Ohio in the United States, Schreiber attended the University of Cincinnati, before moving to Korea to pursue gaming as a profession. Schreiber holds the distinction of being the fifth-youngest poker player ever to win a World Series Of Poker bracelet at the age of 21 years, 11 months and 9 days.

Schreiber picked up his nickname “Rekrul”, lurker spelled backwards, during his days as a professional gamer. An expert StarCraft player, Daniel Schreiber says there are striking resemblances between StarCraft and poker, which he now considers his full-time profession. He says both StarCraft and poker require the player to figure out what the opponent is doing and use that information against him. He believes that anyone who is good at StarCraft will naturally be good at poker.

Daniel Schreiber plays poker extensively online and had six years of playing experience before his triumph at the 2007 WSOP event. He said that the time he spent at PokerStars.com, where he gained invaluable experience in heads-up, helped him in that victory. Schreiber beat out 391 other competitors to win the 2007 World Series of Poker Heads-Up event. This was the largest heads-up no-limit Hold’em event in history.

In the final match, Schreiber played against poker ace Mark Muchnik in a best two-out-of three series. There was no need for a third round as Schreiber swept the series defeating his much fancied opponent in just two rounds. While the first match lasted 79 hands, the second was a breeze, with Schreiber winning it in just 11 hands. Not only was the 2007 WSOP his first bracelet win, but also his first tournament cash, walking away from the event with $425,594.

With this win, Daniel Schreiber became the fifth-youngest poker player ever to win a WSOP bracelet. The only other younger players to have achieved this feat are Steve Billirakis, who became the youngest winner in 2007, Jeff Madsen, in 2006, Eric Froehlich, in 2005, and James Mackey, who came in fourth in 2007. On September 28, 2007, Schreiber picked up his second tournament cash when he finished eighth at the APPT Korea No Limit Hold'em event at home in Seoul, Korea. The result earned him $13,113, taking his total career earnings to a little over $438,000 after having participated in only two tournaments. As recently as May 29, 2008, Schreiber took part in the Asian Poker Tour, No Limit Hold'em where he finished 24th and took home $7,500 as prize money.
