Although born in the UK, the oracle octopus Paul clearly had a thing for Germany until last night when he carried on his predictions and had Spain win the game last night over Germany. Talk about a lack of national pride.

The octopus at the Sea Life Aquarium in Oberhausen had earlier on predicted that the Spanish will win the vital match by choosing a mussel in his tank with the Spanish flag and ignoring his home countries flag.

After the eight legged animal predicted Spain would beat Germany, their fans prayed that the cephalopod had made an uncharacteristic cock-up.

After their heartbreaking defeat last night, the country has been in uproar about the octopus, numerous German fans are calling for the destruction of Paul. According to a local German newspaper  there has been  “a host of comments on Facebook, Twitter ... suggesting Paul should be fried, barbecued or turned into a seafood salad or paella".

German fans have now turned against Paul. On Berlin's "fan-mile", some sections of the crowd were singing anti-octopus song.

Now its only a matter of time until the octopus is swimming around tanks filled with the faces of Phi Ivey, Joe Cada and Phil Helmuth.
