So it seems that the top prize this year for the No Limit Texas Hold’em is a measly $8.94 million. The tournament attracted 7,319 entrants this year, making it the second biggest showing ever in the history of the tournament.
It seems as if the main event up 12.7% up on last year, with around more than 825 players than last year. The prize pool for this year is $68.8 million for the overall entire tournament, up around $7.8 million on the previous year.
Even though the UIGEA is in full effect and the laws restricting online poker have been around since 2006, the sport seems to constantly keep growing, and the WSOP seems to get bigger and bigger.
Jason Alexander of Seinfeld fame commented "I'm glad people are feeling like the economy's back enough that they can do it," Alexander said. "It wasn't because the interest in poker went away, so I have to assume people weren't willing to speculate."
Economic spending has really hurt tourism and the gambling market since 2008, this really being the backbone of the Las Vegas market.
