Not Enough Seats Eh...
It’s a big day for the Rio Hotel and Casino. It’s a bigger day for the poker world. The much anticipated World Series of Poker 2010 kicks off and it’s probably going to the biggest poker event yet. The last most poker fans remember of the WSOP 2009 was that of the crowd rooting for Phil Ivey during the final event, and after a long wait, the WSOP will today be back in full force at noon.
Each year the number of poker players tends to grow a little and we saw more than 60,000 players in the field last year, I’m extremely curious to see the numbers for this year; last year around 500 players were turned away from the Main Event due to a lack of seating but the Rio has expanded its gaming floor by almost 25 percent which should avoid events like last year’s debacle whereas a couple of poker pro’s were unable to actually get a seat, Patrik Antonius included.
There are still the usual WSOP events including the return of the $500 Casino Employee event; the nod to the hard working casino employees who grease the poker industries wheels as well as a new event; he $50,000 buy in Poker Players Championship. This event was actually created as an answer to the ‘feedback’ from numerous poker players who claim that the main event is not longer the all in all to poker as it once was, thanks to some of the insanely large fields that players have to wade their way through to even get close to the main table
Anyhow, it’s the start of a fantastic 7 weeks, and I’m already hearing questions thrown around the office. Who will win? Will it be a poker pro or an unknown online poker that no one has really ever heard of?
Don’t forget, there is still plenty of time to qualify for the WSOP through us.
