A couple of weeks ago, it was predicted that this WSOP would be the biggest ever in terms of attendance, despite the continuing economic downturn that has plagued the economies for so long now. And if the early numbers which have been seen so far are any indication the WSOP is well on its way to becoming the biggest yet.
This does indeed mean that the competition is harder, the lines are longer, and it's harder to walk around, but it does however mean a fantastic amount of media attention, more excitements and of course huge prize pools!
Although it's only about a third of the way through the tournaments, there have been a huge increase in attendance at the event. "We did fear coming in that the financial crisis, particularly across Europe, would have a bigger impact on us than it has thus far," said Seth Palansky, communications director for the WSOP said in a statement,
"We’re fortunate. It's the Olympic effect. It's the once-a-year celebration of poker where everyone wants to come test themselves against the best in the world," Palansky said. "The value of a win here carries more meaning than any other tournament."
Nearly 61,000 players from over 115 countries have entered the WSOP which has awarded more than $175 million in prize money..
