The Wall rebuilt in Las Vegas

It’s been 30 years since the original performance of The Wall and to mark the occasion, Roger Waters has rebuilt (and re-destroyed) it at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

The Wall performance had only taken place once since the original tour in the early 1980’s, and that was in 1990, to commemorate the fall of the Berlin Wall that had separated East Germany from West Germany for so long.

The recent new version was said to have featured many of the monumental stage sets, props not to mention the original theatrics from the first tour but with an added injection of new technology applied to the sound and visuals. Apparently the sound was near perfect, surrounding the audience from all directions throughout the evening.

The first set of the show saw the wall being built brick by brick and then being torn down in the second set.

Water’s music was said to have taken the audience through themes of madness and addictions as well as the struggles of a character called Pink who is said to be roughly based on Waters himself. The band was eventually completely concealed behind the wall that spanned across the whole of the MGM Garden Arena.

Waters updated the 30 year-old themes with new political and social messages. The Wall was torn down during the dramatic finale. Waters spoke of when he wrote The Wall 30 years prior and how he is much more positive now.

Many Floyd fans were hoping to at least see a reunion between David Gilmore and Waters at some point but it seems that this may well be the final chapter of Pink Floyd’s long life.
