Professional Poker Tournament Etiquette

You dont want this guy on you

Thousands of people travel to casinos throughout the world to watch the pros dishing it out live. Here are some tips for spectators so as to eliminate any chances of humiliation and/or eviction from such events.

Get There Early

The tournaments start filling up pretty quickly from as early as the morning so here’s the late starter’s tip: get there between 11h00 and 13h00 while they’re all breaking for lunch.

Flash Photography=Fail

The World Series of Poker, the World Poker Tour, and the European Poker Tour do not allow flash photography during their poker tournaments. A ‘flasher’ will receive one warning and after that will be escorted off the property as soon as there is a second flash. Flashes, of any kind, are distracting for the players who are masters of concentration.

Don’t Cross That Line

There are very valid reasons for the ropes that are there separating you from the players. They are the professionals and you are not, and this difference should be respected. Also, the Gods of Poker will strike you down if you try.

Do Not Talk or Yell Anything at or to the Players

Firstly, this can be seen as an attempt to give players extra information- not allowed and they don’t need it from you, trust me. Secondly, to stress a previous point, these players are professionals and do not want to hear from you during the game. Adoring followers on twitter are tolerated by some, but not loudly.
