HBO has a long list of slightly subversive hit TV shows that have perhaps become so successful because HBO dares to take risks and funds shows that seem to be preludes for relevant themes in the US and worldwide. It now seems that this cable station might have another one of these hit shows on their hands with the launch of Boardwalk Empire, a crime drama series set in 1920 prohibition America, starring Steve Buscemi.
Steve Buscemi is not the only reason why we are eagerly anticipating seeing this show. Terence Winter, the creator of the Sopranos, has teamed up with Martin Scorsese to write the first episode and Mark Wahlberg is the executive producer. Enough name dropping for you?
Accompanying all the big names is also our very favourite theme of gambling which is apparently going to be an ongoing theme. The show apparently explores the relationship between gambling and Atlantic City and all of the undercurrents in between or underneath.
This show could be the perfect replacement for Entourage which ended last week.
