So. The first event of the World Series of Poker Europe was a sellout with 244 entries for the £2,500 Six Handed No Limit Hold’em tournament. With seats for only 204 players, a long list of alternates built up in the Empire Casino and it took until three hours after the noon start time for everyone to eventually be seated.
Organizers of the event were delighted as the turnout far exceeded the 130 players who played in event one of last year’s World Series of Poker.
The 36 tables for the event are dotted across the Empire Casino in London’s Leicester Square and finding players in the event proved difficult for spectators by comparison with the aircraft hanger style surroundings of the Rio Casino in Las Vegas, where the main World Series of Poker is hosted.
Apparently Chris Olaafson has as well been seen spotted in the area....
