You don’t need to be a professional poker player to do well at Texas Hold’Em. While practice and experience are important, by following a few simple rules beginner players can get far.
After learning the basics of the game (you’ll find these easily on the net) keep the following pointers in mind:
• Learn the values of your starting hands. These cards are very NB in determining whether you bet, play or fold.
• Where you are seated at the table will have an influence on how you should play. Ideally try and get a late position so that you can see what other players are doing and determine your game from there.
• Learning how to fold is a very important skill for players who are just starting out because they often have the tendency to stay in the game so as to learn more. If your hand looks bad form the start, throw it in and wait for a better hand
• Before the deal of the cards and during each round you may see the dealer “burn” a card or take it off the top and put it in the muck cards. This is done so that you know that no one could have accidently seen the top card and keeps the game honest.
