Poker Face
Vanessa Rousso, one of the world’s top poker players, is offering poker lessons to spread the word on what it takes to be a million dollar earner.
Richard Dodge, 76, of Gulfport who has been playing poker since 1950 said: “I have something to learn from her.”
Here are some of the pointers she covered in her boot camp:
• For marathon games you should raise your chip stack at a slow and steady rate while sprint games require more chance taking
• Players must remember that they aren’t playing in a vacuum- a poker game is a stream of events that constantly changes with every little thing every player does
• How you play depends greatly on the quality of your opponents and there are hundreds of things to pick up just from looking at them
• Check and see how your opponents handle their chips, whether they arrange their chips in traditional stacks of 20, to see how experienced they are
• Rousso wears dark glasses so that she can watch other people without them knowing
• Don’t talk too much at the poker table- you’ll give away too much
• Playing more than 40 percent of hands isn’t profitable
• Rousso doesn’t show her cards 95% of the time
• Take more risks if you keep falling at the same level and want to go deeper into the play. The risk of dropping is higher but you can build your chips and stay in the game much longer
